Significance of Earth Day 2025

Celebrate Earth Day 2025 with PGC

Every year, people worldwide come together to celebrate Earth Day on 22nd April. Earth Day 2025 make us realise to focus on our planet, our future, and how we can safeguard Earth.

Punjab Group of Colleges recognises the importance of environmental care. That’s why we are sharing this blog with all of you, including students, teachers, and families. Moreover, you will learn about Earth Day 2025, its history, its theme and how we collectively work together to make the Earth a better place.

Let’s start.

What is Earth Day 2025?

Earth Day has become a global event over the years since it started. Every year, more than 1 billion people in over 190 countries take part in Earth Day activities. Further, this day is not only about planting trees or cleaning parks, but it also shows how important our planet Earth is and why we must take care of it.

Earth Day is an annual event that shows the requirement of environmental safety, address ecological issues and encouraging sustainable living. Also, the Earth Day is a reminder of our joint obligation to protect the Earth’s natural resources for current and future generations.

Earth Day 2025 is a call to action because of demanding environmental challenges such as pollution, climate change, global warming, deforestation, nature destruction and biodiversity loss. Furthermore, the Earth Day prominence lies in giving education to people about the human activities and their impact on the planet. Also, it reassures people to take essential steps toward a healthier Earth.

Historical Background of Earth Day

On 22 April 1970, Earth Day was first started in the USA. It was run by an environmentalist and politician from Wisconsin named Senator Gaylord Nelson. He wished for a national day to focus on the environment, inspired by the increasing public concern about pollution and environmental degradation.

Finally, Senator Nelson proposed a national day to put emphasis on the environment. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other environmental laws, i.e. Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act were made after the success of the first Earth Day. Since then, Earth Day has developed into a universal wonder.

Theme of Earth Day 2025

Earth Day is observed every year with a definite theme that shows recent environmental priorities. For example, themes from previous years such as “Restore Our Earth,” “Invest in Our Planet,” and “End Plastic Pollution” have shown initiatives, community events and educational campaigns.

These themes are calls to action, encouraging people and organisations to implement environment friendly practices, decrease carbon emissions, provision of green technologies and promise to support sustainable development goals.

OUR POWER, OUR PLANET is a theme of Earth Day 2025 which focuses on the usage of renewable energy to protect our Earth. It implies that we have the power to pick clean energy to shield our planet.

Also, we can work together to triple clean electricity by 2030. This implies the focus on renewable energy this year, which means stopping the use of dirty fuels like coal and oil and exploring eco-friendly practices by research. Further, it is all about collective effort to use clean energy like wind, water, and sunlight. Clean energy usage helps in

  1. Get rid of air pollution
  2. Decrease global warming
  3. Protect animals and nature
  4. Make an improved and healthier world for all

What is meant by “triple the amount of clean energy by 2030”?

Clean energy means using renewable energy sources. It comes from natural sources that do not run out. These sources include sunlight (solar power), wind (wind turbines), water (Hydropower), heat from inside the Earth (Geothermal energy) and plants and waste (Biomass).

Moreover, these natural resources produce energy, which is safe, clean and helps to decrease gases in the air. So, Earth Day 2025 asked us to use more clean energies instead of using burning coal or gas, which are harmful for our planet.

To triple the amount of clean electricity by the year 2030, the goal of Earth Day 2025 is to use more solar panels on rooftops, more wind turbines in open fields and more clean energy usage in homes, schools and businesses. All we need is to start now because this goal is not impossible.

Actions to save our planet

Here are some simple ways students, teachers, and families can follow to save the planet to make it a better and safer place to live.

Learn about the Earth and Clean Energy

We need to keep ourselves updated because knowledge is power. There is a need to collect information about climate change, pollution, and renewable energy and read about its consequences. Also, we can participate in clean-up campaigns. In this way, we can create self-awareness for our planet’s safety.

Save Electricity

There is a need to save electricity by turning off extra lights and fans when not in use. In addition, we need to use energy-efficient devices and electronics such as LED bulbs, inverters and batteries for daily use.

Less use of Plastic

It takes numerous years for plastic to degrade completely. So, we need to minimise the use of plastic in our daily lives. Instead, we should try to use reusable bottles and cloth bags.

Plant Trees

Planting more trees is also a necessary step towards sustainable development. The trees help to clean the air. It also give us oxygen. Also, it makes the Earth cooler by transpiration and providing shade.

Energy Efficient transportation

We can walk or ride a bicycle instead of cars and bikes. Moreover, we should use electric vehicles for travelling. These practices are healthy and help in the reduction of air pollution.

Conclusion

Earth Day 2025, having a theme of “OUR POWER, OUR PLANET”, is not just an ordinary day marked on the calendar. It reminds us that our slight activities can produce a big difference. You will help the Earth whether you are turn off a light, use energy-efficient devices, install a solar panel, plant a tree or ride a bike.

Remember this: it is our power, and it is our planet. So, we need to guard it together. Happy Earth Day 2025 to all the students and teachers at Punjab Group of Colleges!
