| Teacher Training (April/May 2011)
INTRODUCTION
Teacher Training has been a permanent part of PGC System since its inception. We earnestly believe that training is indispensable to keep teachers’ expertise at their cutting edge. For this purpose the Training & Staff Development Institute was established in 2009, to arrange training programs with regular intervals. In the light of recent marvellous expansion in the form of 19 newly opened campuses in the academic year 2010-11, across the Punjab Province, the significance of teacher training is multiplied. Therefore, following the principle __ need-based and problem-focused training __ laid down in the Institute’s Manifesto, the Director Academics accompanied by the Head of the T&SDI visited all the campuses to ascertain the areas where teachers need training. At the end of an exhausting tour, travelling criss-cross for couple of weeks, from Abbotabad to Dera Ghazi Khan, it was decided to conduct a survey to locate the factual areas for training program. A questionnaire was sent to all campuses for teachers of all subjects, requesting them to pin-point the areas of concern and nature of the problems they usually face in teaching. The response was prompt and detailed, a valid proof how genuinely teachers were interested in training. Out of that comprehensive feedback data was developed, and 2 major areas for Teacher Training were ear-marked. They were given below with details:
