PUNJAB COLLEGES
MELSI

Melsi is located on Lahore – Pakpattan and Bhawalpur – Karachi section of Pakistan railways. It was the biggest tehsil of district Multan. During the recent past two districts i.e Lodhran and Vehari were carved out by taking land of Melsi. Melsi is famous for Jhandhir Library and Siphon at River Satluj to manage water between Satluj River and Sindhnai link canal during flood. Melsi is one of the tehsil headquarters of district Vehari. Its city centre is the oldest part consisting of Muhallas, Koochas and Bazars having narrow streets encircled by a circular road. In united India, this part of the city was occupied by Hindu business community and landlords. Most of the buildings of historic importance have either been demolished or exist in dilapited form. The Shrine of Syed Nathey Shah Gardezi is many hundred years old, where many people pay visit daily. Farming is the major economic activity of this area. Cotton, Sugarcane, and wheat are the common cash crops. Shortage of water in River Satluj has affected the agricultural industry of this area. There are many cotton ginning factories and oil mills as compared to just two before 1947.

There was no standard institution of the kind that could impart quality education to the students of commerce and science to meet the latest challenges. Consequently the management of Punjab Colleges established its college at Melsi. The college is housed in a spacious campus located on Main Multan Road which is easily approachable not only for students coming from different parts of the city but also for those coming from the adjoining towns and villages. The classrooms are air-conditioned. The laboratories are nicely equipped with latest apparatus/equipments to develop a congenial environment for strengthening the practical skills. Content-based animations in the subject of Math, Biology, Chemistry and Physics are employed for concept oriented learning. The college library is well stocked with latest books. The college faculty is experienced and dedicated to groom the students. The college is affiliated with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Multan.
