DERA GHAZI KHAN

The city Dera Ghazi Khan was founded at the close of 15th century and named after the name of a Baloch sardar, Nawab Ghazi Khan. In 1908 the original town which was located at a distance of 10 kilometers
from the present city was destroyed due to a flash flood by heavy rains over flowing the river Indus. The present city was established in 1910. It is situated on the west bank of river Indus. The economy of the area is mainly based on agriculture and the prominent crops are cotton, wheat and sugarcane. Sheep and Goat farming is also being practiced in the surrounding population units. Recently, a good number of industrial units have also been established.
